This week on My Book Corner, I'm delighted to be joined by author of The Mince Pie Mix Up and The Wedding Date ~ Jennifer Joyce. (Please click on titles to view my reviews)
1) Tell us about your Book Corner/Writing Space?
I do most of my writing from the comfort of my sofa. I do have a desk and I love having a space dedicated to my writing after years of stuffing notebooks wherever I could fit them, but my husband also works from home and, as his desk is in the living room (mine is squeezed in an alcove in the bedroom) it’s nice to be able to sit in the same room and have some company.
I use my desk at the weekends, evenings and school holidays (basically any time I need to write when the kids are at home) and it’s nice having everything to hand. As well as my laptop, notepad and stationery pot, I also have my diary and blog planner (just about pictured on the left-hand side of my desk photo) and a framed S Club 7 quote. I went to see them during their reunion tour last year and brought home a silver confetti star, which I stuck onto a printed-out quote from their song, ‘Reach’. The quote says that if you reach for the stars, your dreams will all come true so I like to keep it on my desk as inspiration to keep going. A few days after the concert, I received an email from Carina UK offering me a two-book deal, which was a dream come true for me!
2) Do you have a favourite shelf/collection of books? Or favourite part of your Book Corner?
I do have a favourite shelf on my bookcase, which is filled with some fantastic romantic comedies. Some of the books date back from when I first started to read the genre when I was 17 while some are from last year. It’s such a pretty shelf to look at!
3) Do you have any reading/writing habits?
I always have to have music on in the background while I’m writing. I can’t write if the TV is on (unless it’s a music channel) but I can’t work in a silent room. A cup of tea on standby is always a welcome addition too.
I don’t really have any reading habits. I’ll read anywhere – on the sofa, in bed, in the bath, on a bus or on a park bench. As long as there are pages, I’ll read them.
4) How do you keep apart, track and control your TBR to read books?
I review books on my blog and on novelicous.com so I have two separate TBR piles – in theory. In practice, as I’m not very organised, all the books end up muddled up together. I do, however, have two separate notebooks with two separate TBR lists to keep track.
To keep track of the books I’ve read, I keep a handwritten list (which I keep in the pocket of my blog planner) as well as adding them to Goodreads and my Pinterest board. I’m afraid there isn’t much control of my TBR pile – it’s always huge!
